    Default Rotten muffler - Options!?

My muffler on my 2007 with 231k miles is rotted out. Everything from the muffler back to the cat is in very good shape. It was actually replaced a few years ago.

I don't think Volvo will sell just the muffler. Has anyone done any backyard problem solving like finding some other standard mufffler from the auto parts store that can be modified? I would really appreciate any recommendations. I am confident someone on here has already. One up with a creative solution!!

I have already been to a couple of wrecking yards but all have been also too rusty.

    Thanks!

I found an aftermarket one at a reasonable price at parts geek.

Not many people on the site anymore I see. Not many of these left I guess!

Good move. I bought a new aftermarket muffler from UPSW Auto Parts. I cut the old one off using a Sawzall and attached the new one with a clamp that came with it. Fit perfectly. My car is a 2007.

It was the same price as the one you bought but a different brand. I almost bought it there but I wasn’t familiar with that website. Glad it fit. Hopefully mine will as well!

There are a number of XC70s left, but by now my guess is they are owned by enthusiasts who keep them pretty well sorted.

Sorry I?m late - don?t check much any more, as the traffic here is way down. Replaced the downpipe on the XC a few years ago - aftermarket, stainless, small cat, and it works great.

Then the center muffler went. No longer stocked by Volvo as a separate part, so I got a Starla from one of the Euro suppliers. The rear muffler was still OK, but I bought both, figuring they would fit together easier?

But the connector pipe from center to rear is a weld joint. $75 and a day at a muffler shop and it was done.
