    Default OEM Trailer Hitch compatibility between years?

    Good Afternoon All;

    Own a 2005 XC70, and am looking to add a trailer hitch. Wanted to go OEM (part number 30682087) but it appears to no longer be available from the various online resources.

    I know that the hitch for the V70 XC models (01 - 04) has a different part number (8698948), and those do appear to still be available for purchase.

    Looking at aftermarket Curt Mfg. hitches for the 2005 XC70 and the 01 - 04 V70 XC, their part number is the same (same hitch for all models 01 - 07).

    Will the OEM hitch for the 01 - 04 V70 XC install without issue on my 05?

    Thank you in advance

    I am not sure why the numbers are different, unless one number supersedes the other. Body style is the same and mounting locations should be the same(4 bolts if i remember correctly) I think I have either curt or draw-tite installed in mine 01v70xc and it works fine. I would pay extra and buy oem wiring kit to save time and frustration. Everyone's situation different but I would not tow anything more than 1000pounds on mine over fear of transmission failure. I saw some guys using xc70 as a landscape car towing trailer with so much mulch that I was afraid my car will start misfiring from seeing such abuse, but next time I saw them around they were using some older minivan..I use hitch on mine for thule bike carrier and rare small aluminum boat(550 pounds?). It is always cheaper to rent a truck than fix transmission in my opinion. Good luck

    If you’re using it to install a bike rack, OK, but I wouldn’t use this car to tow. The transmission can overheat, easily.

    If you add an aftermarket cooler, maybe a couple thousand lbs, no more, but you’re asking a lot of an 18 year old transmission.
