Default What oil should I use?

    So long story short…

I purchased a 2002 Volvo V70 XC from my boss for $2k. Yes, I know I effed up but I once purchased an 08 Audi A4 for $6k so call me Master Eff Up Boy *♂️

Anyways, Im new to this car and he seems to have taken really good care of it. I know the timing belt is new, transmission replaced at some point, did alot of essential engine maintenance. He gave me a folder with a bunch of Volvo services done which I havent really had time to go over tbh. Car is currently at 138k and it runs pretty smooth still (which I know can be deceiving).

I want to do some simple maintenance on the car and I want to start with an oil change. I want to get an order processed through FCP asap. So, what oil do the Volvo gods advise I use for this car?

Also, any extra advice on what I should be looking out for on this engine and maintenance tips are welcome!

    An ACEA A3/B4 oil. E.G. Castrol 0W40. Mobil 0W40.

We talked about this a while ago…

For this car, check and/or replace the PCV system. Check your engine mounts and front lower control arm bushings.

There are many threads on this topic. It's a long ongoing debate but most agree you should be using FULL SYNTHETIC. Here's some info:

Synthetic is a term (often debated) that applies to the base stock. 75% of oil is base stock.

    The other 25% is additives.

Both are critical to performance. “Synthetic” is not enough. You need an oil that is designed for long drain intervals to keep the PCV system clean.

Look for an ACEA A3/B4, which is the standard that Volvo recommends for engine cleaning in their sludge removal TNN. The two synthetics that I recommended meet that standard.

    Many synthetics do not.
