Default The bushings at the ends of the transverse bar holding the top engine mount

25K miles ago I replaced all my engine mounts chasing a clunk that turned out to be sway bar links. D'oh! I still have a little clunk on/off the gas and shifting from park to drive and back. I've got a poly top mount, it does it with either the OEM rubber or poly. When perfecting my procedure for swapping the top mount (I've got it down to 10 minutes), I paid attention to the slop in those bushing thingy mounts at the ends of the transverse bar holding the top mount, which seem to have way more than the rubber engine mount. Does anyone ever replace those?

I've had these poly inserts for years. IPD also offers heavy duty mounts.

I've done the IPD mounts on at least one car. Stock on another. Volvo mounts on a 3rd. The IPD mounts are aluminum blocks, no real increase in NVH noted.

Thanks guys, IPD HD units on the way. I was chicken to do the Poly's. Surfing around I saw some solid billet units that would improve my handling, apparently. Uh... no!

    Did this fix your problem?

I went with the billet option from iPd somewhat recently and I think it increased vibration transmission. I'd like to put the originals back on to see if they do in fact reduce the vibration .. but it must not be bothering me too much, as I haven't gotten around to it!

It didn't fix the clunk, but oddly enough, the car feels smoother at idle.

First place I would look for a reverse to drive clunk would be the lower torque mount.

I ended up with an IPD polyurethane arm, with a poly insert on the big end where IPD used rubber. No real increase in NVH.

That said, with age, there is a lot more lash in the drivetrain.

Power flex makes the large bushing.
