Massive Oil Leak

In doing the crankshaft seal on my 2001 XC70, the videos I have seen bypassed the removal of that cut and went straight into the seal replacement. I had seen a video where Robert mentioned that device is spring loaded. I need to replace the crankshaft seal.

In VIDA, the parts or removal section does not show that cup like shown in the photo above. I also searched "crankshaft" in parts store or Google, I still could not find such.

Any directions please?

I'm not certain what you're asking.

The arrow points to one of the VVT actuators for the cam. There is a green o-ring seal for the plug covering of that VVT, and that o-ring is available separately from Volvo. The price, of course, is silly, like $8 for an o-ring, but since they've got the only one I could find, that's what I paid when I did the cam seals many years ago.

FCP Euro might have an aftermarket seal and Corteco or Reinz are fine for that kind of part.

This morning, I had tagged a YouTube video by Robert. In it, it shows exactly what I was looking for; how to remove the spring loaded VVT cover.

1. From the above image, is the adapter (#4) for a different model. My original Oil Trap has a short hose with two torx clamps.

2. This is a good time to ask this question. Coolant. I have different cars that require or originally had different coolant colors from each other. Now that I have the XC am currently working on, with all coolants drained. Can I use a universal/All Model coolant on this Volvo?

I think the adapter will work.

I've stuck with Volvo brand coolant on my cars for one simple reason: if I am out of town, and my wife, or one of my kids, takes their Volvo to the dealer or a good indy for service, then no special coolant instructions are needed.

It's Volvo blue in all three cars.

E.G. When my daughter, who is in Salt Lake City, took her Volvo (the red 2002 V70 T5) for a new radiator, the dealer didn't have to discuss coolant or insist on a flush.

I do the same with my MBs - genuine MB Coolant.

Same reason.

The oil pressure release valve (OEM# 463963) in my oil sump, as a valve, when I cleaned and blew on it, on both directions, air went through. Looks like the valve is bad, being a valve. I had wanted to just put it back there and don't worry about it so it won't interrupt my work. Reluctantly, I will order it.

The new valve just arrived. I blew in it and the air went both ways. How come it's called a "valve"?
Does it become a "valve" with temperature; I guess. It means the one in my oil sump is good.
Since I just got a new one, I'll install it and keep the old one for the other '01 XC.
Anyone know why I can blow through it both directions?

I would think so. Drain the old coolant completely (radiator drain gets just under half - open the drain on the metal cooling line just behind the block, it's right next to the angle gear). Flush with water by filling with water and running the engine until the thermostat opens and it circulates. Drain again.

Refill with water, and run the engine. Drain again.

You may not get all the old coolant out, but you'll get most of it. You may not get all of the water out, either, but you'll get most of it.

My methodology - refill and run with water twice. Then what's in the block will be mostly water. Drain all that you can.

Now, add a gallon of new, 100% coolant. Top off with water.

Since it holds 8 qts, you've added the right amount of coolant to get to 50/50 mix, and you're adding some water to the trapped water, it'll all be close enough.

Removed the camshaft locking tool. On the rear, exhaust, there is a cup that is screwed into the shaft.
What letter goes where?

F goes in to C. It’s the only way it will fit.
