Question Used XC60 or XC70? Help me decide!

    Hello XC'ers!

I am in search of a new used Volvo, and right now I am torn between the 2008+ XC70 and the 2011+ XC60. I chose those years because it seems they have fewer issues than their earlier counterparts.

I prefer the design and profile of the XC70 -- it more closely resembles my beloved 240 wagon, and seems (to me, anyway) to have better visibility.

However, the XC60 has better fuel economy, and seems capable of towing slightly heavier loads (3500 vs 3300 lbs, not too much).

    What do you folks think?

    Thanks for all your help!

I drove a 2005 XC70, son now drives it. I got a 2012 XC70 T6 a couple months ago. Love the power, and modern updates, but it actually is little taller than the 2005. I love how the 2005 handles! The 2012 handles great also. My wife just traded in her 2008 XC90 for a 2016 XC60 T5. They are pretty similar cars, but the XC60 is a CUV, and the XC70 is wagon, based on a sedan. So I guess it depends on what's more important. Handling vs better towing? There are a couple engine variations for each one too. Good luck.

Actually I’m going to be looking at a 2015 S60 T5! I’ve been told those T5 engines are terrific, and I would appreciate the better gas mileage...

We had an 03 xc70 with the 5 cylinder Turbo and now have a 14 xc60 with the 3.0 Turbo.

Performance: Xc60 without a doubt. Its a far nice engine as well. I never liked the feel of the five cylinder or sound. Its the wife's car so I don't get to drive it much....
MPG:. Never really drove the 03 enough to know. I drive the 14 on long runs and it gives us 22/24 depending on conditions. Around town its under 20mpg.
Trunk: xc70 for the win. Its not only bigger but being rectangular shaped its better and more usable.
    Rear seat: About even.
Visibility. xc70 for the win. The rising beltline of the xc60 kills rearward and side visibility. The latter is crucial for pre lane change head flip in town or interstate.
