Default License Plate Bracket Threaded Insert

    Hi, Folks

I recently decided to replace the rusty license bracket and acorn nuts on my 2010 XC70. As I tightened the new bracket to the tailgate the right-hand threaded insert broke loose and fell out. The insert looks to be an integral part of the composite tailgate.

The only way I can think to fix this is to try gluing it back in place. I have some 3M instant glue and thought I'd give that a try. Maybe some kind of resin or fiberglass repair would be a better way to go.

Anyone else experience this? Any ideas and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Just want to post a quick update. The CA glue seems to have worked. After curing for a few days then following up with touch-up paint, the bracket is still secure two weeks later.

The old bracket left patches of rust on the paint that I tried to gently scrape off. Scraping around the insert probably loosened it, then broke completely free when I tightened the new part to the tailgate. I'm glad I got it repaired before winter cold set in.

    Glad to hear it worked.

If it gives any further problems maybe try a two part epoxy.
