Default New to me 2002 xc

A few months ago I bout a 2002 xc70 cross country. 650 out the door with tags. Needed work. Sunroof had been bonded shut. 2 cracked side windows. And alot of other issues. So I replaced the entire sunroof assembly and now that works. Got new back door glass. Cleaned inside and out. Ran like trash and barely drove. Turns out had no coolant, oil and trans was 3quart low. So added oil and other fluids. This thing rips! But revs up before shifting from 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. Not as bad since I filled the trans but still does it . Shifting manually does help some but not completely.

So what can i do to fix it? The gears all work good once they shift but it also goes into reverse hard and with a good 3-4 second delay.

I have added dual usb charging ports to the rear of the center console. Fixed oil cap leak. Got all the lights working.

The 2002s have a history of transmission issues. You've started out on the right track by putting in new transmission fluid. With new fluid, the shifting "might" improve.
    Search this site for:
    The Gibbons Method
    Shift flare
    B3 valve
    Valve body

There's a lot of info on this site because poor shifting is a known problem for the early XC70s. Do some research and ask questions!

So easy driving 1-2 shift is decent. 2-3 jumps 500 rpm. And 3-5 almost 1k

Make that around 1000-1500 between gears. But once it shifts they work great

    How many miles?

Let me guess, it’s worse when it’s hot, but shifts OK when it’s cold..

You may find this useful. Read the how to on replacing the valve body.

Then, you’re on borrowed time. If it flares, warm or cold, with new fluid, I think it’s shot.

Change the fluid completely. Get this kit from IPD. It’s cheaper than buying the o-rings alone and has everything you need, including directions.

Use a fluid that meets JWS-3309. Easily available and synthetic is the Valvoline Import Multi Vehicle. I’ve used that with good results in the XC. You’ll need 14 quarts for a full fluid exchange.

Ty. If I keep it I'll get that done. I'd like to keep it but Bill's are pretty tight
