    Default Drain plug washer question

2006 XC70 I have dozens of oil plug washers, given to me by a friend. Copper and Aluminum. What is the correct metal to use? Does it matter?
PLUS...Gear box drain plug washer...is it the same as the oil plug? My local dealer says YES....I question his knowledge. If it is the same...copper or aluminum for the transmission?

I'm pretty sure oil is aluminum, but I have a few copper ones too. I just replaced my angle gear fluid and it uses copper. I can't remember what the tranny uses!

My vendor sold me copper for the steel oil pans with a steel plug, (the iron block engines, 240,740 etc) and aluminum for the aluminum pan engines with a steel drain plug. And for your car the trans plug washer is the same as the engine washer.

A good way to pin down metallic washers is to pull up the specific fluid exchange kit (FCP Euro, IPD-USA) for your Model-Year. The washer part# is published there.
