Default New accessory belt tensioner looks different, 04 XC70

    Greetings,

The accessory drive belt tensioner needs replacing as it is making noise. I got a replacement from IDP and was going to put it in until I noticed that the pulley looks different. The one on my '04 XC70 has ribs that correspond to the ribs on the belt (I installed a new belt). The replacement's pulley is completely smooth. I checked online to see if a ribbed tensioner pulley was available and all I can find are smooth ones. Was there a change and would a smooth tensioner be appropriate?

    Thanks

Thanks! Thought so, but figured I would double check. Now to get a mechanic's mirror so I can get down in there again next weekend.

It’s pretty simple once you can see it.

And 50,000miles of operation with tension against that belt will leave lines (not really full grooves) in the tensioner pulley.
