Were both an VY70XC and the XC70 models sold in the same years? (I believe yes.)
Is a 2000 Volvo V70XC AWD SE is the same as a 2000 XC70? Differences?

My understanding was that when the XC model was originally introduced, it was called the V70 XC. Then, during the P2 Generation, for the 2003 MY it was renamed to XC70 (The difference can be seen in the badging). So, to answer your question, in the 2000-2001 MY, there is only the V70 XC, but they refer to the same car, just at different years.

However, I find the some websites only refer to them as V70 XC (looking at you, Volvo parts of Canada), while others refer to them as solely XC70.
