I arranged the following things with Hans at FDC drop off.
Note: FDC accessory items are VAT free and there's no need to obtain VAT Free Refund forms filled out.
Note: When returning car to FDC for shipment there are some forms to fill out and a few signatures required. I didn't pay too much attention to all this as it was handled by another person besides Hans -- so I can't precisely say what all this documentation was -- sorry -- but no matter it takes very little time up.
Note: If you have a list like mine below I would suggest you provide yourself a good 1 1/2 hours to get it all done and paid for. I still had Swedish/Norwegion money (paper bills and Swedish coins) and I gave all of this to Alexandra who subtracted it from my bill and allowed me to charge the balance to my AX charge card. This is a very good way to offload any remaining foreign currency before getting to the airport. Alternatively, you can use this technique when paying for your last one or two hotel bills.
Note: If you have someone with you it would also be useful for that person to keep and eye on the clock so that you have FDC call a cab at a good time to get you to the airport if you're flying out the same day. It takes a good 30 mins to get to airport from FDC. Also allow an extra 60 mins at airport before you checkin at ticket counter if you have any thoughts for obtaining VAT refund(s).
Note: There's a single toll free telephone booth against outer wall inside the FDC that can be used to call USA or elsewhere if you need -- also there's the Internet access computer in the raised IT area to one side of the FDC main office counter.
My FDC Drop Off List
1. Full refund for the picnic table and cushions as I felt strongly that the picnic table support mechanism was poorly designed and would not come close to the requirements my wife and I had for it. My dealership will issue the refund check (2871 SEK or $330) to me without fuss.
2. The Aluminium Protective engine plate Part#9451784 will be installed before shipping my car back to USA. Hans said this plate had an Option Code 230 (cost was 1200 SEK or $138). I can also keep the standard plastic one that will be shipped with car.
3. Swapout standard plastic grocery tray for a shallower one Part# 8650397 to allow a full size spare tire to fit without having to abandon the use of grocery tray -- allows floor panels to lay flat. No charge for this.
4. Full size spare tire and Tellus alloy rim (can keep donut that will ship with car). Originally during FDC pickup Hans had quoted this to be 1800 SEK but after he had researched it some more he discovered this price was only for a full size spare tire and a steel rim -- I did think this price was a real steal. Anyhows the cost for the Tellus alloy rim + spare tire was 3800 SEK or $438.
5. Extra remote for Volvo Nav System -- part# 8622150 (600 SEK or $69) that will ship with car.
6. Fog light covers installed -- part# 8622980 (100 SEK or $11.53). Bought three extra pairs for forum members: budrichard, steve and kersti.
7. Modify auto dim mirror to dim down to the maximun extent -- software mod -- no charge.
8. Two extra master keys (300 SEK or $34 for the two keys) and one extra remote (600 SEK or $68) that will ship with car.
9. Modify timer for courtesy/interior light to dim out after max time of around 90 secs. Software mod at no charge.
I asked about a CD-ROM version for Owner's Manual and Volvo Nav System manual. Hans said they're made in USA and that I should be able to obtain from my dealership.
I asked for central door lock system to automatically lock car at 5 mph. Hans said it was a good idea but at this time it's not possible to do this. However, he knows other USA people liked this option and hopefully with the feedback Volvo gets on this feature they might offer it on their future cars.
Hans took the Valet key and remote and let me keep the other keys and remote. I also was allowed to keep the Volvo Wallet of info that included the car warranty brochure, Owner's Manual, Volvo Nav Sys Manual, plus all the other goodies in this wallet.
I also removed the two brass looking fobs that had "Volvo Special Delivery" embossed. Other OSDers I met thought this a good idea as these nice looking momentos just might get lost in shipment
Car ships from Gothenborg Apr 13th on the Jinsei Maru boat (Opera Line) and Hans said overland shipping had already been arranged to get car to my dealership on/by May 19th.
