    Hey Gundo,

Is that an Evo 1200? Couldn't say for sure from the photo, but the profile seems to fit.

If you happen to be using the O.E.M. rack/crossbars to mount your box, keep a close eye on the rubber feet that clamp onto the roof rails, they tend to come loose after a while. I lost one on the last trip out to B.C. and ended up ducktaping the metal clamp to avoid scratching up the rail.

I also noticed a new low-profile rack on Thule's website called the Northcape. It's finished in high-gloss black and looks pretty sleek.

Art - you are correct - that is the Thule Evo 1200 - cost me $300 at the local sports store.  The thing that is most hard to believe is that the rack makes less noise with the rocket box on than when the rails are bare...not sure why, but it is definitely more quiet.

As for running a box with the sunroof open, you can all forget about it...the box just pushes so much air into the cabin, you have to keep the sunroof closed!

As for the size of the 1200 - it fits mega amounts of stuff.  Now our dogs ride in comfort in the cargo area and all our crap and baby stuff fits up top.  I even managed to fit a 3 wheel jogging stroller in there!

I've got a couple more pics of how I modified the Thule rails...closeups that show how I cut the ends off.  The stock length of the Thule bars is 2" too long on each side...a little creative trimming with a hack saw and some Dremel work, and voila, a custom fit rack...and yes, with the excess cut from the ends of the bars, there is less wind noise.

I have the standard Volvo square cross-section roof bars that I originally bought for my 850 but fit just as well on the rails of the XC.

Any idea of whether the Thule boxes fit plain/flat bars?

The mounting system for the Thule box will accomodate just about any shape cross bar.  Factory, round Yakima type, rectangular Thule type.

It simply uses a U bolt type connection, and it is about 4 inches wide, pleny wide enough for just about any factory rack.
