Default New Volvo owner , and forum member V70/XC and fuel pump issues.

I was at a tow yard auction to look at a 1973 27' Airstream, and ended up getting a 2001 V70/XC for $297 a couple of weeks ago. Silver with a perfect black leather interior. Since it looked in great shape I took a chance that it was also well maintained. I ordered a key from the dealer, then had it towed to the dealer to program the key. Got the key programmed and the dealer said it cranks, but does not start. Trailer it home, and start troubleshooting. Push the Schrader at the end of the fuel rail, and it just dribbles out. I can get it to start if I floor the gas pedal, and it runs perfectly smooth between 2,000 and 2,600 rpm/rev limited. Under 2,000 it wants to die. Looks like the fuel pump. Checking around I found a company called FCPEuro.com that has a Bosch pump for $141 and free shipping. Haven't ordered yet. I am probably going to do the floor cut method to replace it. I can weld so I plan on welding a flange, installing some studs. or maybe some rivnuts and a gasket to attach it back over the hole. I see that when it is cut they splice the wires. Where would access need to be made to get to the original connector? With the pump replaced I will be into it for about a grand. My friend who works on Volvos suggested dropping the rear driveshaft and making it a two wheel drive to get better fuel economy since we don't need AWD here in Southern NV. I live 70 miles from my buddy's shop, and he is very busy, so I try not to bother him too much.

I'd be worried the car was dumped because of a bad transmission. You won't know until you get it running. Good luck. Keep us informed.
