Default Need tips on keeping the black trim black

Hi all- 03 XC70, new to me, and quite clean, I used Back to Black last night on all 3 miles of black plastic trim on the car. She looks great, but those "protectant" products never seem to last very long- like one drive in the rain and we're grey again.

Does anyone have a favorite product that they use that lasts longer? I've used Trim Black paint on my old 850 (several years ago) but that car had minimal black trim. It did look great after the painting and stayed black a long long time. This XC seems like way too much trim to paint. Thoughts? Thanks, Dave

Mine seems to be more of a bluish color than black. I am not sure if it is intentional or wear. I like it though so it isn't a bid deal to me. I could see how it is a big deal if you don't like it. No protectant products I have personally used change the color to black at all.
I am pretty sure none of that answers your question though. Sorry.

The trim comes in two colors - Volvo calls them blue and brown. Blue comes on silver cars (and maybe other colors) Both colors fade and turn chalky. You can use the heat gun method to restore either color.

I've used Forever Black to dye a faded brown trimmed car and it matched new trim that was replaced due to an accident. Forever black is a dye - similar to liquid shoe polish and is permanent.

Well mine is the darkish red color, I'm guessing its the brown trim. I've heard of the heat gun trick (and I have a heat gun) makes me kinda nervous like I'm gonna melt something. Maybe I'll watch a utube and try it somewhere inconspicuous.

I'll check out the Forever Black, that sounds like what I need. Dave

Try "Wipe New". You'll need 2 kits for the XC. Applied over a year ago and still looks good.

Aerospace 303 after 2-3 applications over time, per label directions.

That said, are you sure your black car's trim is black and not some shade of gray from factory? my green XC's trim is dark brown (after I cleaned it up well. It had grayed somewhat).

Astro, did you use it on your headlights too? I have heard of this product and assumed the effect would fade fairly quickly on the headlights.

In my model year, the headlights are glass, so, no need to treat them with anything.

Wipe New goes on like a thin clear finish. It smells like toluene, or another finish solvent, but it lasts. I did it in April last year and the XC still looks good despite being parked outside all the time.

+1 for Wipe New, did it more than 2 years ago and the color is still not that far away from the new rear tow hitch bumper cover I put a month ago.

Did Wipe New on the headlights as well, it looks not as good as after treatment with Sylvania kit, but for sure lasts longer - Sylvania was basically gone in two weaks
    2002 V70 (sold)
2005 XC70 (Telos Road took it. Did a chassis swap)
    2016 XC60 (sold, P.O.S.)
