Default Power steering pump pulley removal

    Hi guys,
Have any of you managed to remove the PS pump pulley on this car?
Can you let me know what tool you used? The volvo tool is so expensive.
I've tried using the GM puller but its no good. I've found the Volvo tool to buy but I just want to see if you guys have got experience removing it.

    Cheers

Power steering pumps fail so infrequently that when they do I usually source a used pump to not have to deal with pulley removal.

That's what I've done. $65 from Erie Volvo.

Or, pay $300+ for new and transfer the pulley?

    Thanks for the replies gents!
$65 is too good. Now I'll need to decide whether to buy the tool or get a used one coz the cost is almost the same.

I bought the rebuilt PS from FCP thinking that GM puller would do the job but I was wrong. Should have bought the rebuilt PS with the right size pulley. The one got shipped to me came with a smaller size pulley so i would need to swap it out or find a shorter belt.
I've been using the car with the rebuilt unit but i can see the tensioner moving abit and Im not happy with that.

Transferring the pulley seems to be the toughest part. I even tried a local garage with no luck. I might need to bite the bullet and get the tool for $150 AUD or so.

I had to remove the pulley from the pump back in 2008, here is how I got it off. Replacement rebuilt pump came with a bolt to press it back in, was very hard and bolt seems like it was near breaking during the process but survived.

Hi Howard, I did read through your thread and tried the right size socket but it didn't work for me. The tool couldn't hold the lip of the pulley properly.
The GM puller kit I bought having the installer that would fit the thread for installation. Its this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toledo-24...72.m2749.l2649
I'll just buy the Volvo removal Tool 9995737 and see if it would do the job.

    Cheers
