Default CD Player Repair - Duh.

    Ahoy !
What is the collective wisdom on getting a CD player ( HU-613) repaired ?
Remove the unit and take it to an automobile radio repair shop?
Take the car into an automobile radio repair shop and let them deal with the removal ?
Other ? Yes, I want to play CD's.
    Thanks.

    Get Error message.
    Hear mechanism working.
    CD does not play.
CD is not being ejected. Going to have to extract it in some manner.
CD was playable in home unit; so, I conclude the CD is good.

Well, in Jim's defense, the only reason you read that with sarcasm is because you've seen it before. If that was your aunt writing the reply, you probably would have read it differently...

Anyhoo, used is the way to go here. I don't think anyone repairs these, except maybe as a hobby.

    hello.
thanks to all for the information.
my hesitation on getting a used unit is - well, you know: same "mileage" & wear as mine.
an aftermarket new, modern radio ? oh, good grief. i can barely manage to place and pick-up calls on the mobile telephone. i still amble over to the AAA office and get paper road maps.
    all the best,

I considered the options when the CD player in my T5 wagon ate a CD a couple years ago. It had other issues, too: it would randomly change source and/or channels. My options: about $50 worth of adapter/covers with the cost of a new head unit (several hundred for GPS Map, Bluetooth, etc) that I really wanted, or $100 for a used unit from Erie.

In the interest of quickly getting this resolved, I bought the used unit from Erie. I told myself I would upgrade when it dies...

    That was four years ago..

OK; OK: "Youse" convinced me to purchase used.
Is it difficult to remove the radio ?
I'll poke around the Internet but, thought I'd seek advice first, here.
Yes, I do have the code.
