Stage 26B – Olivenza Part 2 in the Museum

So here we go in the Museum, and as the saying goes “A picture is worth a Thousand Words” while the Words are in a picture before the picture that ties in with the words! Hope you got that bit……?.

I will also apologise for a couple of the ‘Word’ Pictures that are blurred as the camera developed an unknown focus ‘fault’ before it corrected itself…….

As we move away from the identifies areas in the museum we come to an area that depicted the types of dresses worn by the ladies with a few bob (£/$/€) to their names to be able to buy the material and have the dresses made ……

Assuming that the dresses/clothes were made using the worlds famous ‘Singer Sewing Machine’ while there are a few still running in various parts of the world today!......

In another room was this model of the Town Wall and the Castle inside……

While the next room showed parts of the life of the church……

Not sure if this was a biblical scene as it was in the room for the church……

Still ain’t finished, but now we move from the Castle to the Cathedral, but that is for Tomorrow!……

    Good night!

Stage 26C – Olivenza Part 3. Coming back to the campsite

Remember the Cathedral from the first part of Olivenza?…….
    Here it is again…….

    This is inside……

Back outside and now outside the city wall……

While we see there is some ‘White Line’ paining being done on the road…..

The person in the white overalls is laying down the ‘masking tape’ to give a nice straight edge, while the person in the ‘High Viz’ jacket is using a small roller to paint the rectangles!!!....

Then it was back to Elvas for a look at some of the parts we missed on the visit we made last year!......

Got in a parking place and as we made our way into the centre we pass this large herd of sheep with 3 Shepherds grazing outside the city wall……

While on the other side of the small valley is Fort of Graca that we visited last year……

As we then turn right to pass through gateway in the bulwark foundations to the centre of the town……

The view in between the bulwark foundations……

Now inside and near the middle……

    Now near Elvas Castle……

While on the other side of the next small valley is the Fort of Santa Luiza, which we have yet to visit!.....

    Then turning right we see……

With some views from inside the castle……

The Cupola seems to have been quite popular…..

As we understood that it was used as the castle kitchen, but is now a souvenir shop but was closed……

Then we spotted these as we made our way back into the town centre……
    Re-cycled plastic bottles!......

Notice the size of the wooden beams holding up the bells in the tower!......

Time to head back to the campsite through the tunnel in the outer wall……

As we get to the parking area we see this all weather football pitch which looks in good condition and was no doubt provided by EU funding……

As we then start back we get to see the famous Aqueduct of Elvas……

Sculpture on a traffic island which is a tribute to the Voluntary Firemen of Elvas……

The sign as you enter or leave the town......

Sunset after an interesting day out!……

Back on the road tomorrow and into Spain…….

    Good night!

Stage 27 – Estremoz to Caceres

Once again heading North we see from the trees that while Spring appears to be approaching, the weather here has taken a real drop in terms of temperature and sunshine……

Tomorrow we head off to collect the parts to carry out the repairs to the ‘Tin Tent’ from a dealer in Spain who is close to our route back, as the service from the dealer in the UK once again failed to materialise.

    Good night!

Stage 28 – Caceres to Briviesca

Dull and rather cold is about the best description of our surroundings as we set off this morning from Caceres to make our way to Briviesca and the ‘TinTent’ Dealer to pay the balance and collect the new parts for repairing the accident in Morocco……

As we started the trek along the Autovia we were overtaken by a number of small Renault 4’s that looked like they had been on a long arduous journey!......

Then this ‘Breakdown Truck’ passed us with a couple of ‘4L Trophy’ stickers on the rear which we had seen on a couple of the Renault’s and we thought ‘Rally’?......

Then as we were returning after having a comfort break and a coffee these two Renaults pulled into the parking area while the one with the hood open sounded rather ‘sick’ while we got a closer look at where they had been!......

As the BIG sticker says it’s the 4L Trophy which is a rally of strictly Renault 4 cars with Students from the city of Rennes in France who head off to go driving in the sand dunes in Morocco……

Compare the next couple of pictures as this one looked a bit ‘drunk’ as it leaned when coming back into the inside lane after overtaking us, either that or the suspension was knackered!......

With the ‘assistance’ of the Internet and the title of the even I found this picture of all of them in Morocco…….

While if you are interested in the even then this link will take you there, however the website is in French……

    http://edition2017.4ltrophy.com/

After 300 miles and another couple of hours later we arrived at the Caravan Dealer to pay the balance and collect the parts to repair the ‘TinTent’ while I have to be totally honest and say that the help and assistance we have had from Ana the owner has been superb, and I would make no hesitation in recommending her…..

Ana offered to let us stay for the night inside the secure compound which we accepted as she also told us about a factory on the estate that makes speciality Spanish cakes and biscuits, and has a Factory Outlet, so off we went for a look see and this is the place……

As we went in through the doorway this was what we got to see……

After tasting one of their biscuits which is half coated in chocolate we were smitten, and so indulged in the goodies on the table……

Top left is a packet of the biscuits……
    Top right are small ‘muffins…….
Along the bottom are small sponge cakes with an infill of chocolate down the middle……

While one each of those small sponge cakes with the infill of chocolate went very nicely with a cup of coffee back at the ‘TinTent’…….

Back on the road tomorrow to Navarette……

    Good night!

Stage 29 – Briviesca to Navarrete

A short trip for us today as we left Briviesca to head for the campsite at Navarrete, only to find that when we got there the Internet has been inaccessible on the campsite for the last 2 months!

Reception was ‘rebuilt’ during December & January while a builder cut the Wi-Fi cable, which was not identified as it just provides access for the campsite guests, while the rest of the facilities are all hard wired. And so far the cut wire has not been replaced!......

Once again a dull and cold morning while the forecast said rain by 14:00hrs and they were not far wrong!......

While it did not take long to realise that we were in Rioja wine ‘country’! ......

The saying goes that “An Englishman’s Castle is his Home” while looking at this ‘Castle’ at the entrance to a Vineyard, then this Spanish owner seems to have taken on board the English saying!......

While after some R&R and the inevitable ‘shopping’ over the last 2 days we are back on the road tomorrow and hopefully back into France…….

    Good night!

Stage 30+ Navarrete to South Wales

As we have done the part of this trip from Navarette (Spain) to South Wales (UK) on previous occasions then we did try to find alternative pictures of interest for this last section and there were a few, but not as many as we would have liked, so here goes!......

    Setting off from Navarette……

The Castle on top of the hill has a real commanding position……

We thought it was low cloud, while it was smoke from a factory chimney that was causing this effect!......

As we got into Pamplona we had to make a detour around the very LARGE Volkswagen Car Production Plant as a road was closed off which caused a few surprises to the locals to see a Caravan rolling along the roads in the Industrial Area!......

To finally get out of Pamplona one of the ‘Exits’ to France is via this Tunnel……

    Followed by another one……

As we then take the Non Toll Road to Irun at the Spanish/French Border…..

As we get onto the only section of Toll Road that we use, as it keeps us away from having to go through a couple of difficult to navigate French towns, we pass through the roadworks of making the Toll Road into 3 lanes with a central barrier of continuous solid concrete, being made by this machine!.....

Then we get into Roullet and our overnight halt……

As we take a walk into the village we see that there is a lot of water flowing around the place, much more than we have seen on previous visits here……

While the place is rather nice, sadly there is a lot of property that is on the market for sale with very few buyers it seems as the majority of the properties have been vacant for quite some time......

As we got back to the Aire I could not help but notice this Car Trailer that was fitted with a ‘Motor Mover’ to enable it to be moved into place and then connected to the Camper that was towing the unit!…….

Route National ‘N10’ now called RN910 that seems to have a continuous line of Trucks heading both South & North……

Which is one of the reasons that a new 3 lane road is being built/constructed alongside, and if ‘push comes to shove’ and there is no EU Grant to build it, then it will become another section of ‘Toll Road’!......

While it was nice a bit further on to get back to travelling through the smaller villages……

As we then arrive in Bonnville and the water lever in the small ‘canals’ around the town is full to nearly overflowing, still the Ducks are enjoying it!....

Meanwhile a shopping centre a bit further along the road produced these little fellas, who were rather interesting to say the least……

Stopped here for the first and last time for a ‘snack’ that consisted of 1/3 of a baguette with a slice of ham inside.
While the butter covered less than half of one side of the baguette, the baguette was so hard and maybe ‘stale’, that it nearly broke my teeth trying to eat it!
We also bought two café o’lait that came with a jug of cold milk for the coffee!
Total price was just over £12! Definitely not impressed while the service was one of total disinterest by the staff……

As we had our last ‘Rocky Night’ at this Aires in Montreuil thanks to a storm that came through and just about rocked us to sleep in the ‘TinTent’ thanks to the gusts of wind and the rocking motion it set up!......

Next stop the following morning was Le Manche! (The Tunnel!) and check in for the train back which due to a ‘Technical Problem’ ended up being late……

Then 240 Miles later we see the cost of crossing the Second Severn Crossing to get back into South Wales and back home!......

As we get onto this bridge we actually got a few spots of rain, but then it stopped as we got into Wales!......

    So that’s it!
The fat lady is singing and it’s the end of our trip, which we both hope you have enjoyed!

    For the ‘Technical Types’…….

We covered 6081 Miles, in a tour lasting 115 Nights…..
While YES, we are going to go back to Morocco, as we found it to be safe, friendly and very interesting!........

The first picture in today's batch is a very good.

Sad to see the end of the trip. Enjoyed it very much as I have the other trips.

So which toll does your rig fall under for the Severn Bridge as they do not show a car and a caravan on the sign?

    Hi ssicarman!

Glad to see you have enjoyed the view from the 'Third Seat' on this trip as well as the others!

Thankfully we still fall into the top bracket of 'Car' for the Bridge Tolls as the 'TinTent' does not count.

Having said that I am rather glad that we don't have a 'Camper' that weighs in over 3.5Tonne!
