Default Played ambulance for a friends Rhodesian Ridgeback.

A few weekends ago globe trotting friends were getting their three Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs flown into Calgary from the UK. They are now in Vernon. One of the dogs arrived with twisted guts and needed emergency surgery to fix things up. Once they finished with the dog he was cut open from ribs to gonads.
The trip to Vernon in the Dodge crew cab pickup with two other Ridgebacks in the back was not going to be a good thing for the patient. The back of the Volvo made for a good space for the dog.

We left Calgary with a mix of sun and cloud and made it to Vernon where there was about the same. In between there was everything from sun to snow.

    Leaving Calgary.

Great pictures, looked like a nice trip!

Looks like you had decent weather as well judging by the number of RV's on the road at the same time as you?

That 'Emergency Ramp' looked more like a 'Ski Jump for Trucks' as you reached the top and took off over the other side!
Must remember to order a Parachute for the RV if we come over for a tour and take that road!

I take it that the BIG Green Hotel/Motel went out of business?

Why did you not want to get stuck behind that Truck going through that section of the road? Do they tend to break down in there or slide all over the place and cause accidents?

I trust the 'patient' is now fully recovered from the operation and enjoying his new home?

Glad that you liked the pictures. It was an interesting trip. It has been more than a few years since I drove out that way.
On the whole the weather was nice, the areas with sunshine more than made up for the rain.

The Patient last I heard was doing fine.

Right now it is European RV tourist season, a lot of them are German. Any of the RVs that have the wild graphics/advertising on the outside are rental ones. Most of those will be European people that made plans long ago and they have to carry on regardless. Not being from here they don't think of the chance of this kind of weather happening. I think that there is one picture in the post with an orange closed banner on it. The banner reads closed.
    Here is another.

This one is from the west side of the pass where there is camping and hiking. Right now there is just to much snow/cold, also I am sure things like bears coming out to open things up.

The Hotel and services at the top of the Rogers Pass are hold overs from when the Pass opened in 1962. It would have been a big thing to do this trip in the cars back then so a hotel and gas station would have been essential. In the 1980's the Parks service made things more privatized and I think that operators could not make a go of things so this is now the result.

Getting stuck behind a semi in the mountains here is not a good thing when the road is only two lane, limited passing opportunities and steep hills that the semi's go up very slowly.
When the picture was taken it was the beginning of the climb to the top of the pass so if I had not gotten by the semi in a passing lane after that snow shed it would have been a long slow trip up.
