Yes I know, figured you would say that!. Way too much. They also welded on other broken/rusted hangars but still too much. They did the exhaust on my camaro and it was very fairly priced at the time so I just went back to them. I travel back and forth 400 miles each way every weekend and I didn't have time to shop around so just sucked it up.

For anyone who has been following. Since the middle of June I have not had the code come back. I think the it does have something to do woth the Exhaust CVVT hub. Maybe an air bubble got in there or in cleaning it out it took awhile for the carb cleaner to mix fully with the oil. But I passed inspection and remain code free for now. If it comes back I am going to bet it is the hub itself that is bad. If I can make it to 200k then I can decide whether changing the timing belt and hub is worth it at the time.

    176k miles now!

Thanks for all the info, will update if status changes.

    On going update:

I went 7,500 miles without the P0017 code. When it came on I checked my oil as I continue to think it is pressure related. I was down 1 quart. As an aside the car has 178k miles on it and only burns a quart every 7,500, great testament to Mobil 1.

I added a quart of oil and the light went out after 60 miles, came back on for 30 and then wenter out. I checked to see if the code cleared with my OBDII and another 90 miles later the code cleared in the computer. I still remain convinced it is pressure related and has something to do with the CVVT hub which may need replacing. I am not sure if air gets in there somehow when the oil level drops but that seems unlikely.

I thought I would update/bump this.....As the weather has cooled the code has come back again. It is still intermittent and goes on and off. Anyone else experiencing any of these issues and can point me more directly to the problem....

    Thanks!

This is an old thread but I had this same problem and it is the electrical connector on the exhaust solenoid. My VIDA shows the angle and target angle which should follow each other when the engine RPM is changed. If there is a bad connection they do not follow and a CEL occurs. Anyone know the part number for this connector? The VIDA shows it on the IPB but no part number.
    Thanks
