    Default Brake rotor size

Guys..I need to replace my brake rotors..problem is there are two sizes..286mm and 305mm. Aside from measuring..how do I know what size I need for my car.... its a 2003 xc70.
I usually order online..so i'd hate having the wrong part returned.

You probably have 286s but if you have the standard 16in XC wheels and the caliper is about 1/2 or so from the inside of the rim then those would be 305s.

I just changed to 305sfrom 286s on my XC and the difference in size in respect of how they fill the standard XC wheels is noticeable.

    Cheers,

That is what's confusing....websites will say if you have 16in wheels then it's the 305mm rotor and if you got 15in wheels then it's the 286mm rotor...are there xc70s with 15in wheels?
Fcp euro or was it eeuro...told me i have 286mm rotors based on my vin..but, if i have 16in wheels i need 305mm rotors...

There are no 15" P2s, they all came with 16" wheels until optional 17"s were offered in 2006 and 2007
The odds are you have 280s, VERY FEW have the bigger brakes, especially a 2003

FCPeuro said based on my vin I have the 15in setup so i need the 286mm rotors...but I have 16in wheels and i also know that there are no xc70s with 15in wheels....
Anyway..thanks for clearing that out jrl...now I know I have 286mm rotors....also noticed the difference with how the 305mm and 286mm rotors look like...

    Carlsson,
I did the bigger brake(not R) upgrade and included shots of the two rotors for easy ID. I have always used OEM rotors so that should help some. For those finding this post here is the link to the brake upgrade page, http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showth...t-front-rotors

A ruler can answer your question.

Your XC came with 286 mm rotors. So did mine. My T5 came with 305mm rotors.

But it's easy to upgrade, and I suspect you're not the original owner.

So, the only way to be certain what is on your car is to get out there and measure it.

    Period.

The answer isn't on the Internet - it's in your driveway.
