There are 2 different T5 engines available in Belgium, a 2 liter 4-cylinder and a 2.5 liter 5-cylinder .
According to the figures they almost have the same performance, the 2.5 liter has some more power.
I don't see a FWD T5 in the list of your cars, but possibly you compare a T5 with almost 250 Hp
with the XC's 210 Hp. The newer T5 does have a (far) better mileage.
As JRL mentions, snow is a potential problem. Given the choice I drive a RWD car in the snow.
