Default Interior Hatch light shut off?

I frequently turn off the interior lights so I can leave the windows down and the rear hatch open for the dogs crated in the car at trials and classes. I easily found the off button in the cockpit....but the light on the ceiling just inside the rear hatch stays on and I don't know how to turn it off. Anyone help?

    Hi,

The quick answer is to take the bulb out as I have the same darn problem when the tailgate is open and the switch that controls the light is 'invisible'!

On my 2008 XC, the light is on a timer and goes off by itself.
Never timed but t seems like about 10 mins.

I was interested in this myself. One trick that worked on a MY2015.5 in the showroom was to manually flip the latch on the opened tailgate to trick it into thinking it was closed. But you'll have to remember to unlatch it before closing it again.

It turns off by itself, but the timeout is pretty long.
