    Default The End is Near!

My 1999 XC70 has been making a clunk when starting out in either drive or reverse.
Turns out it's a bushing in the drive shaft but the drive shaft also required replacement. Volvo part is $1700 and bushing's are not replaceable and a bushing replaceable drive shaft is about $1500.
Couped with two emission codes, a fuel level sensor that is bad and rear wiper not swiping effectively, that's it!
Engine has started to use oil also.
Will let my grand daughter drive the car for a few months until it either gives up the ghost or requires emmision testing.
My favorite of the three XC70's I Own to drive!

That's all sounds like pretty incidental stuff.
The fuel sensor is probably the biggest hassle.
What's the mileage? How are the body and interior holding up?

Sounds like my vehicle, I've got a camshaft position sensor coming, yet I still have the pin of coolant reservoir hose at the radiator snapped off, as well the same clunk as your one. It is a wonder I want to keep going. But, what you said about classic cars ... is what drives me also. And the fact that it just ain't worth much to wreck. There are basically no cars like mine driving around in Auckland. Very few. Body is great, but engine pains (rebuilt 5244T3 head gone on my 5254T block recently) has been hellish.

    Update!
16 year old Grand Daughter has the car.
If she likes it after driving this summer, will replace with rebuilt drive shaft per JRL(Thank you!), fix Codes and hopefully it will take her through College.
Fuel level sending unit is too much to fix and A/C has slow leak so we charge every Summer.
I was driving it daily but now am using the 2003 XC70 which only has about 105K miles.-Richard
