    Default A/C Issue 2004 XC70

Hey guys, I searched the forum here and found some info that seemed similar to my issue but the resulting fixes didn't fit my scenario. Here's the issue:

A/C will start blowing warm out of nowhere. If I drive around for awhile with the system shut off then turn it on again it will blow cold as normal.

I read there was a similar issue on the XC 90 and a Volvo service bulletin issued for a system overcharge. My a/c hasn't been worked on since I bought the car a couple of years ago as it's been working great. So system overcharge is not a possibility.

Is there a similar system shutdown for an undercharge? I was going to add some freon but if it isn't needed then I don't want to mess with it without a good reason.

Any ideas would be appreciated 👍 Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look at the temp sensor. Couldn't hurt.

Why overcharge is not a possibility? It sounds like you have an overcharge. Buy yourself pressure gauge (for example, comes with Arctic Freeze R134 recharge can) and infrared thermometer. Park the car so it would be in the shade in the morning, measure temperature and pressure of low pressure side, like that:

Other possibility is worn A/C clutch, some people fix it with bread clips, some reshim the clutch.

It is necessary to measure the clearance between the clutch and the compressor , it should be from 0.3 to 0.5 mm.

    sorry for my googletranslate))

I got tired of redoing the bread clips and bought a remanufactured compressor from erie. local shop charged me $200 to install it... Inevitably the bread clips would break off during the hottest weather when I was on a long drive with passengers...
