    Default Oil Change, recommendations?

As i get to grips with the finer points of my xc I think an oil change is in order, according to the service book it looks like it's still running the original oil, apart from the engine.
I changed the aoc oil in conjunction with the pump and filter but i want to do the diff, the angle gear and gearbox.
What oil should i use or is the volvo packaged stuff the best bet. Car is an 06 with the M66 gearbox and D5 engine.
I cant find much info on the manual gearbox fitted to these as most seem to be auto or geartronic.
    any info appreciated.

Just wanted to know what weight oil to use, and is there any specific type/brand recommended over any other.

You can't go wrong with a GOOD 5w30 synthetic.
I use Mobil 1, others use Castrol etc.
As for the other oils, I use the Volvo fluids. You have to with the Angle Gear and the Haldex (if you change that too), some use other fluids for the ring and pinion but I just changed mine with Volvo gear oil

Avoid the Volvo packaged stuff, unless you like giving them your money for the same product that can be had cheaper elsewhere.

Use a good quality synthetic. Change it on time.

Agree 100%. Volvo doesn't use any magic fluids. They just put a premium price on the stuff they get from the same sources that you buy from (i.e. Mobil, etc.). Just make sure you are using the correct spec of fluid and get quality stuff from a known supplier like Mobil, Castol, etc. For example, I use GL-5 synoil gear lube in my angle gear and rear diff that I get from Canadian Tire which sources their lube from Mobil (via Esso up here) and is less than half the price of Volvo-labeled lube.

    Cheers,

In the manual for the car, there should be a required oil spec for the engine you have. You might need ACEA A5/B5 oil. In that case, if you find Mobil 1 full synthetic, that would do the trick.

In my 2.5 turbo, I change the oil every 10K miles.

I am fan of 5w-40 oils.
I ran my three previous Volvo's on Castrol GTX 5-30/10-30, though they were of the Non Turbo variation my experience with 5w-40 has been better faster cold-starts without any of the 'ticking' I would get with my previous Volvo's after an aggressive drive.
Considering our cars are Turbo, I will be trying Rotella T6 5w-40 with a Mann Filter. Subie, Audi & Mercedes owners have had great luck with it...it's also not very expensive at $21.00 a gallon which is less expensive than Mobil 5w-30 when purchased at Costco.
