    Default what is this

Can anyone tell me what this is?
it sits on top of the transmission housing.

I was doing a transmission drain and refill and I knocked the white top off this piece and somehow it landed right in the trans dipstick tube. thank goodness it was not small enough to fall all the way through and I sucked it out with a funnel on the end of a shop vac.

Anyway, I put the cap back on but I don't know if the top is supposed to come off or if the piece will continue to function. Any info?

    thank you.
So I am guessing that there is a good chance it will continue to function if it is just a vent. Would there be any symptoms if it was not functioning?

Tranny fluid coming out the axle seals when the tranny gets hot. I would worry about it. It's just a cap over a pipe. If it wiggles at all, it's likely loose enough to work.
