Default serpentine belt tensioner pulley replacement?

I'm wondering if any of you did the replacement of the pulley (only) or you guys always replace the whole tensioner assembly?
The pulley i'm talking about is like this one listed on FCP: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vol...pulley-8627994
When I released the tension from the tensioner to get the belt off, I had to use lots of force to get it all the way to the release position so I guess the spring inside the tensioner is still working ok.

I want to replace the pulley because it spins too freely when I tested it after taking the belt off. And the tensioner type on mine is the one that has the bolt going through the center of the pulley and I also use that bolt to release the tension. Looks like this one: http://www.justanswer.com/volvo/31lh...mi-gym-el.html

    Its $30 vs $100.

A friend just replaced only th pulley on his 02 V70XC with 145k miles recently. The bearing was shot. You just crank the bolt counter clock wise to remove it. As you observed also, the tensioner still works great.

Great! Thanks for the info! I guess I wouldn't need to remove the tensioner if I only replace the pulley? Is it as simple as unbolting the pulley then put the new one on and torque it to spec?

Correct, no need to remove tensioner to remove+install pulley. VIDA (Volvo service manual) don't show the torque spec for the pulley so you have to go by feel when removing.

FYI on the timing belt pulleys. Roller pulley bolt = 24Nm and tensioner pulley bolt = 20Nm, so I'd imagine the serpentine belt tensioner is about similar torque spec.

An idea just came up, I think I can just torque it to the maximum release position and that shouldn't break it because we always have to do that to release the tension. That would be safe enough I guess!

Maybe slightly more. I'd do 25Nm with torque wrench or by rough feel.

I'll try to do that if a torque wrench can fit in there! Cheers
