Default VOLVO XC70 Front Suspention/Shock Absorbers

    Hi All,

I need to replace my front shock absorbers on my Volvo XC 70, but cannot afford the shocks from the dealers. Was told that Monroe Shocks might have a shock that fit, is there anyone out there that fitted the non standard shocks, and any leads as to where i can get hold of a pair, as well as the code or spec?

I am based in South Africa.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Herman

You might check the availability on Rock Auto or the Monroe web sites. I recently purchased and replaced the front struts on my Brazilian VW City Golf with the Monroe Quick Strut, that comes complete with a new coil. Both sources I mentioned seem to only sell the Volvo strut shock absorber, but the cost is considerably less than from the dealership. I noticed how my 2008 XC70 front struts are designed surprisingly identical to my Golf's design. I had broken a coil on the VW and found that the shock absorber was weak, so the Quick Strut kit was my easiest solution. If you plan to do the repair yourselves, then a hoist and coil compressors are mandatory. An alignment is recommended after the repair since the geometry of the front suspension has likely changed. Here's a picture of my VW and you'll recognize the similarities. Good luck and please report back with your solutions.

I believe Sachs was the OEM supplier for that component. I have never been very impressed with anything Monroe here, second rate and cheap. Do you have any European specialist parts house near you? I go through eEuroparts.com here in the States, their web site alone can be helpful, I would guess that international shipping may be prohibitive in cost and time.
I am a strong believer in OEM parts for most of that type of part.
