Question Pirelli Scorpion replacement time... or not?

I have a slow leak in one tire and it's near time to replace them anyway. I have been downright frightened at the wet handling of this tire, at least with 4/32 left. My choices at this size, as most of you must know, are quite limited. What have you folks tried and liked? Particularly for wet handling. I have snow tires for winter.

Complicating this decision is that I have a *new* Pirelli that was given to me with the purchase of this car, so I would only have to buy 3 new Scorpions, if I decided to stay with that tire.

I would say that if you have the Scorpions on your car, it's Scorpion replacement time....

    But that's just me...

    They're awful tires.

People are pretty pleased with the Nokian WRG2, I put Goodyear Assurance ComfoTred on our 2004 but it's our 3rd car.

I would use the Pirelli as the full-size spare and buy 4 Goodyear tires.
You get $80 back until the end of the year.

Almost any tire is better than a EXPENSIVE POS Scorpion
You want a decent inexpensive tire, try the General Altimax Rt 43 (I think that's the number)
It's decent, quiet, cheap and not a bad tire at all or move to a 225/60/16 and you have even more choices (and the speedo will be the same)

The WR-G2 are great tires, but expensive. I would use them again in a heartbeat were I in snow country. For budget reasons, we went with the AltiMax RT-43. They come in the correct size, with an H speed rating, which you should have (for more on that, read here: http://www.barrystiretech.com/speedratings.html ) and they are very good tires.

Want a cheap tire? Kumho Sense. That's the last set I got. Nothing wrong with them.

Love the Nokians. Have them on all my cars. They rage in the snow and rain and I get 45k miles out of them all year round. Those Scorpions are total garbage. I had them and in the snow they were useless. I hated that tire. They lasted 1000 miles before I replaced them.

What's the date code on the pirrelli tire? When I first got my XC it came with the pirelli scorpions. 2 were new, the other two were from 07 and 08 and had looked quite worn. When I went to purchase 2 new tires for replacement was told that the current stock had been discontinued and that the new ones were the right tire, but for $20 more a tire. I opted for the discontinued tires as they matched my date code, will be looking for replacements shortly.

    That is true
There are 3 or 4 generations of Scorpions
    ...and they still all suck!

95% highway speeds, never had problems in rain with BFGoodrich Advantage T/A. Never had any problems with them, except they are noisy most of time (all-season...) and they totally suck in snow. Oh, MPG sucks too - around 21..22.

Going for General Altimax Arctic for this winter, will pick something else for summer.
