    Default Nokian WR G3 SUV

I was impressed with all but the asymmetric wear of the Nokian WR G2 XL we had on our 1999 XC70 and our 2003 XC70. So when I noticed the rears required replacement on the 2003 XC70 a Internet search for the latest and greatest All Season tire convinced me to go the Nokian route again.
The latest Nokian WR G3 SUV gets some good reviews, so I called my local tire dealer and was informed they just got a shipment of Nokian's in. $701 later, a set pf 215/65R16/XL are on the 2003 XC70.
I must say, subjectively, that this set of Nokian's rides a little better and quieter than the last.
If this coming winter is anything like last winter here in Wisconsin, the Nokian's will get a lot of use!-Dick

I will be going on my 3rd set over the next couple of months. This is the only tire our Volvo will get couldn't be happier in all weather conditions and 40k-45k miles works for me since they perform so well.

Is the attached photo of the G2 or the G3? Looks like the G2 to me.

They both are asymmetric but if you closely compare them, you will see they are different.
My tires are marked G3 SUV on the sidewall.
I have seen pictures of the G# that are not asymmetric maybe a different size?-Dick

I have about 10K miles on my WR G3's and am quite happy with them. I did not opt for the SUV style. Wear seems perfect rotated every 5K. Much cheaper in WI than Washington State, I paid a little over $900 here.

I am going with these for my winter tyres. I have the Nokian Lines on presently and they are great! They cost me just north of £300 and they are much better than the Perrelli STRs. They are fantastic in the wet and produce less noise in general than the Pirrellies. I found those rather disconserting in really wet weather. They accentuated the understear and I thought tended to tramline. One thing I find very interesting about the Nokian is that the wear indicator shows precisely the depth of tread, starting at 8mm.

What size and rating did you put on your XC70. This is shown on the tire sidewall.
215/65R16 is the standard size for your vehicle. Nokian only makes a 215/65R16/102HXL as shown on the Nokian website.
The tire I have is actually marked 215 65R16 WR G3 SUV H102, The XL is made specifically for heavier SUV type vehicles.-Dick

    Damn! Your right!
    Made in Russia!
The XL is the SUV version which should be marked on your sidewall, so you do in fact have the correct load version but why the 225/60R16?
I noticed that the 215/65R16 H XL is not listed on the Nokian website but my dealer does have them. The higher price you paid could be due to the V rating versus H which is a lower speed rating.-Dick

ID:	6527The OE size was not available last year when I purchased the tires, the WR G3 was quite new then. Only one dealer here carries the Nokian tires. No SUV marking.
