The A/C of my MY2004 is still working after 11 years and about 45K miles.
Is this considered to be normal or is it rather exceptional?

I do not know what is normal but our MY2003 XC70 had over 143K miles and the A/C was still working when we sold it in 2012 to get the 2012. Our MY2005 S80 with basically the same system is now at 120K miles and the A/C is still going strong.

Not only is the A/C still blowing ice cold after 10 years on our MY04 V70 AWD with 225k miles but we are amazingly still on our original factory battery!
So it seems to be normal that the A/C still working.
In any case that's not what I hear from may other brands...
And yes, I also still have the original battery!
I must add that when I took delivery of the car, I had the biggest battery that would fit installed.

2003 XC70, A/C still works fine.
1999 XC70 A/C has slow leak, can't find, recharge every two years.
Just replaced alternator with used unit. Fuel gauge doesn't work, too much $$ to fix, one more problem and it's history.
It appears to me after having purchased a succession of Volvo vehicles, that each succeeding generation has become more unreliable and cost for parts, diagnostics haveincreased non-linerly.
Last Volvo for me is our 2011 XC70.
No Diesel option, no AWD E-Engine until at the earliest 2017.
Volvo has lost sight of it's core values, longevity and reliability.-Dick

Yes MY01 has working A/C (climate control) and the original battery. A/C last looked at - recharged six years ago. I try and use cold side every so often even in winter but also keep the CC on Auto all the time. Just put a new set of Nokian Lines 215x65x16 98V today - they have 8mm of tread.
