Default Towing rear wheels down with rear drive-shaft removed

    Hello all,

I'm new to the forum, and have a quick question.

If I pull the rear drive-shaft, would it be safe to tow my 1999 V70XC behind a motorhome with the front wheels up on a car dolly, and the rear wheels down? Is there a quick drive-shaft disconnect that can be installed, so I can just disconnect rather than pull?

    Thanks,

    jwehlitz

I can't imagine any reason you couldn't. I've read where several members have disabled their angle gears in lieu of replacing them and just keep motoring. I've driven my car with a non-functioning angle gear for 40,000 miles that I've just replaced and the remaining parts are working fine. In fact, my mechanic suggested if I wanted to enjoy better fuel mileage during summer months that I could remove the driveshaft and reinstall for winter weather. It wouldn't be necessary for you to install the driveshaft while on destination, you could just enjoy the trip.

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense.
