Default 2014 XC70 Volvo Power Steering Light Issue - Need Help

    Good evening,

I am a new 2014 volvo xc70 owner and my first volvo. I am having an issue now getting my power steering light to turn off and am unable to think of the possible cause. I was hoping to get some help from your expertise. Can you possibly provide some help and things to possibly look at to get the light to turnoff? Anyone else have this issue? I got into a front fender bender and this is now occurring.

    Thanks so much!
    Ross

You have a new XC70 and you got in a fender bender? Now you have a power steering light? Not aware of a steering light, you likely activated an ABS or Brake System trouble light.
You should not drive the car and have it towed to a dealer.

Sorry to hear about damaging your new car

I'm guessing you have the new 4 cylinder engine in your car with electric steering. If so you have an electric power steering pump that is mounted in the right front fender. Is that where the body damage is?

Thanks for the reply! Yes I bought a brand new 2014 xc70 t6 premier plus and unfortunately got into a fender bender. I am having my father in law work on it but he has not worked on a volvo before at his used car dealership. So you think it's an abs light? Since the only damage is in the front end I will have him look at that. Any other thoughts on anything else it could be? Thanks again for your help!

Thanks hoonk for the reply. Not happy with the accident of course but ready for it to be fixed. I have the xc70 awd t6 premier plus. Would the power steering pump still apply on this one? If not any other recommendations? My father in law is working on it but has never worked on a volvo and his having issues. He has a used car dealership which helps in cost to fix!

    Gents,

The US market XC70 with AWD have the 3.0 T6 engine, not the new super/turbo 4 cylinder engines.
Too my knowledge they do not have electric steering.

What does the light look like? Is is a wheel with 2 partial segments? What does it say on the inside?
Is it a red warning light? What about driveability? What symptoms manifest themselves?

    Hey!

So just spoke with my father in as about the late and here is the response I got...

    Drives fine,
Only when stop and go. Either way hard to turn.
It says power steering need to be serviced

    OK, let's check Hoonk's idea.

Is the damage in the right front fender?
Have you checked the fuses? If the steering is electric maybe it popped a fuse.

The warning is coming from your digital dashboard, and will require a VIDA/DICE (Volvo's computer system allowing them to connect their computer to your car) set-up to reset.
Likely the dealer will be required to service the steering rack (either hydraulic or electric).

You invested a good chunk of change in your new car. Best to protect this investment with quality care.

Thanks a ton guys. Anyone have bad experiences with Volvo dealers? My father in law and I have been working with the Tulsa Oklahoma Volvo dealer and they have been pretty poor to deal with. Not very good customer service according to my Father in law. I'll keep you posted when we troubleshoot the issues mentioned on here. You are the best too! Cannot thank you enough.

The 2014 xc70 uses an electric pump for the hydraulic steering rack - the 2004.5 and up s40/v50 does also.
