Odd set of symptoms here: car runs normally until everything is completely heated up –usually about 30 min. Then I get this horrendous burning/plasticky/petroleum smell and the car misses badly at idle. Gas mileage drops like a stone. After car cools, it runs well again. Got a CEL code but the reader I used could not recognize it.
Not burning oil, tranny fluid, coolant, brake fluid or power steering fluid. I thought it might be the cat, but I found similar symptoms on another post and it was coil packs/plugs causing unburned fuel to go through exhaust. Also the smell is definitely not rotten-egg/sulfur. Has anyone experienced a coil failure that took 30 min to show itself?
