Default Need help with O2 sensor part # 1998 v70xc turbo

I am replacing the cat converter and exhaust system on my 1998 v70xc 2.4L turbo and can not figure out which O2 sensors will work ? Volvo wants $200/ea, but Bosch offers both up stream and downstream for $100/each ? Bosch needs the chassis number to spec the part -- does anyone know where the chassis part # is located? Any help or general information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

The chassis number is the bottom line (3rd) of letters and numbers on your VIN plate on the left inner fender.
(I've never heard of needing the chassis number for an 02 sensor).

Yes, Bosch is what to get.
Also replace the short 02 wiring harnesses, those you need to buy from Volvo

cool-great help. On the Bosch website they list the 2 upstream options = first option, is a 4 wire, with 20.9" harness (p#15097) - second is a 5 wire, noted From 8/98, which is a Wide Band A/F (p#17038)....my VIN# is YV1LZ5645W2449806..so I assume my ride is "9806" or June 1998...indicating I need the 15097 part#. However, Bosch only denotes AWD on the second option-From 8/98-the 5wire, A/F p#17038. My car is AWD with turbo - do you know if Volvo used the wideband air/fuel ratio O2 sensor on all AWD regardless of pre/post 8/98 ?

As far as downstream - your note about the "short harness" is exactly what I was looking for...again Bosch lists 2 downstream options, first #15063 denoting AWD and a 27" (short) harness or, P#15062, a 69.5" harness and the VIN 55....my VIN is 56, so I will get the short downstream harness p#15063.

Still confused about chassis# my plate below:

The last 6 digits of the VIN (449806) is used when there is a chassis break is the Volvo parts catalog.

Here's how Volvo defines items 14-26 on the product plate, sorry about the bad picture.

If you will post your correct Vin# I will try to look up the correct part, you have posted an 18 digit number, Vins are 17.

I see...fat fingers ...the correct 17 digit is VIN# YV1LZ5645W2449806... which means my chassis number is 449806...if you check the Bosch vehicle finder on their website - the downstream options are 15062 and 15063....the difference being 15063 is a 27" wiring harness and 15062 is a 69" wiring harness...looks like I need part#15062-the long harness? Your thoughts ? thanks

You may need (vida can be confusing) 9202719- or 15097 front sensor, 9202720- or 15062 rear. Have sold bunches of both for that year car.Click image for larger version.

And according to Worldpac extension harnesses may be needed 9202714, 9202715 (i've never sold those but corrosion is not a problem in my part of the country)

The function of the rear sensor is to test if the convertor is working - the front (if bad or contaminated) can change the mixture enough to damage the convertor, the rear can't/won't do that.

Are you replacing these because you dont want to ruin a new convertor or are you getting O2 codes?

    NO

Damnit, I told you what your chassis number is:

    3WAMMWA4|

I also mentioned why would they want your chassis number???
What you posted is the last 8 of your VIN (SERIAL number, which makes more sense as there was a cut off date on 1998s

thanks for all the help, man...yes, I am replacing the entire cat converter and the exhaust system. The cat is cracked and leaking and the mufflers are toasted...I live in Upstate NY and the salt on the roads eats everything. I confirmed with another Volvo tech - the upstream O2 sensor is Volvo 9202719-or Bosch 15097 - that much I think I have correct. Downstream is where I was lost...now that I have the chassis number squared away, all indication look like I need Volvo 3202720-or Bosch 15062 - the "long harness".

Are you saying I may need extension harnesses for both up/down - in addition ? Bosch 15097 and 15062 do not come with the correct harnesses? Yikes- that would be a bummer??

Since I am not in California, and don't need to pass emissions test, I found an aftermarket supplier = North Eastern Cat.com...I bought the cat and mufflers from them, and figure while I am doing the entire system, I might at well replace the O2 sensors while I am at it. Any ideas or feed back would be greatly appreciated..thanks!
