Decided to heck with the interstate and headed to the coast in Oregon instead of going south and into northern California like last year.

    This a plywood plant.

Cooling pond across the road from the plant. They used sprinklers to spray the water into the ponds.

Really liked the pictures of the cloud in the valley, and the lighthouse.
Always been puzzled why to cool water it is sprayed into a cold pond causing loads of steam, whereas piping it into the cold water would immediately cool it down without causing all the water loss through creating all the steam?

All of the shots with cloud are actually shots of fog from the ocean. The last batch of pictures were all from Highway 1 that follows the coast. It went from driving through the fog to driving over it. The last two pictures above, where you see the cloud is fog covering the ocean. It seems to start dissipating once it hits land.
This year was very different weather than last year. A lot less rain coming down on me during the day, more sun shine , but there was the fog from the ocean.

Not trying to be educational here but....

The cooling ponds are just that. The water in the ponds is as hot as the steam/vapour makes it look. High humidity and coolish temps help make it look like more. The process used to make plywood produces a lot of heat so water is used to keep things cool. So the ponds have a lot of heat in them and the water sprinklers spraying the water try to dump the heat in the air.
So it is not really cold water making the steam but hot water.

    End lecture.

Those of you with trailers and RV's will need to leave them behind now. They will not make it all of the way and there are no turn arounds after the two mile one.

    DSCF1502 by ssicarman, on Flickr

    Starts out ok.

    DSCF1503 by ssicarman, on Flickr

Right turn takes you to where the bridge over the river used to be. You want to keep straight.

    DSCF1504 by ssicarman, on Flickr

    No issues so far.

    DSCF1505 by ssicarman, on Flickr

Starting to hint at road issues.

    DSCF1506 by ssicarman, on Flickr

The asphalt seems to have disappeared. Lets park and have a look around.

    DSCF1508 by ssicarman, on Flickr

The sign says RV's and trailers prohibited. The road looks better than it actually is.

Road off of the "main" road that went down steep and then some and around a few down corners, down some more to a nice parking lot with a few walks to ocean views.

Took this one because the cliff goes down pretty straight and far.

    Hi ssicarman!

Thanks for the info on the 'Heat Transfer Process'.

Those roads in the woods where RV's & Trailers are not allowed are not half as bad as the ones we get to go on nearly every day over here, along with Trucks (Semi's) Buses (Coaches) Cars, Camels & Donkeys not forgetting of course Pedestrians!

I thought I recognised that bridge! (Richmond–San Rafael Bridge) as I have been across it a couple of times when visiting SFO as well as the Golden Gate.

Pity there are no 6 lane highways over here, it might help out or confuse the Camels as well as the locals who seem to like walking down the middle of a two lane road, especially in the town centre, while pushing a wheel barrow!
