    Default 2000 XC70 AWD Transmision Issue ?

Forwarding shifting is normal with no abnormal noises. In reverse the car is reluctant to move backwards - like the brakes are partially on - it will go back but takes gas to make it happen. I am ready to pull the the engine/transmission but thought I would check the forum first to see if anyone has experienced anything similar or has an idea on what might be happening. 90K miles

Had any issues with the parking park shoes? This is just a shot in the dark I have no idea whether something life a separated shoe could cause these symptoms.

I have a 2000 XC70 SE with 103,000 miles and the four-speed automatic that was rebuilt 3000 miles ago. Now the reverse gear no longer works and the car will roll backward in neutral with the emergency brake off. I am thinking of replacing the 2000 transmission with a 1998 AWD R transmission that has only 65,000 miles. I have read where the 1998 transmission should work in the 2000 vehicle provided the electrical sensors from the 2000 transmission are installed on the 1998 transmission. Both transmissions have the 50-42LE and 1208 designation with only the following three digits being different. The 2000 transmission is listed as having a 2.54 final drive ratio, whereas, the 1998 final drive ratio is listed at 2.56. However, I would think this difference would be insignificant. I would greatly appreciate any knowledgeable input on putting the 1998 AWD V70 R transmission in a 2000 XC70 SE.
