If I disconnect the battery will that relieve the gas pump pressure so I can replace this filter ?

There is no need to go near the battery. There is a Schrader valve incorporated in the line running to the filter which you can open like releasing air from a tire to release fuel pressure. Just have something to collect the fuel in.
