I have a 2000 XC70.
After I replaced the head gasket now it really hard to start. Once it starts it seems to idle fine. I'm thinking maybe i have the timing off a tooth. Would that cause it to start hard but idle fine?
Any help anyone could give would be great.

What codes do you have? Did you set the pre-load on the CVVT hub?
If you have no codes and you followed the book procedure to set the timing then the only thing I can think of that would cause your hard starting is a bad check valve in the fuel pump. Check the fuel pressure and then watch the gauge after the engine is shut off, it should maintain decent pressure on the fuel rail.
