03 XC70 with 146000 miles. The driver side rear door won't open from the outside. Works fine inside. I've taken the door panel off, can't see any cable dangling or what hooks up to the door handle. Hard to see inside the sheetmetal. So how is the latch hooked into the handle? Something must translate the pulling up motion into a pulling cable motion?

So to make it work again, what do I need to replace -- rod, door handle, cable, latch assembly? FCP Groton doesn't show much in door hardware

You really need to take the interior panel off and see. It could have just come undone.
Or you could just replace the whole door and be done with it!
