Strange noise around 3000 RPM

Help!

For the last day or two I notice a "whoosh" from around the vicinity of the center stack of my XC70 when I accelerate hard ... also sounds like high pressure water being forced through a narrow gap or like a slurping sound without the "r". The sound lasts for about 2 seconds and then disappears. When I drive sedately, there is no sound.

My first thought was water being pushed through the inside heater radiator, but then I thought that it may be a leaking turbo or turbo piping.

For what its worth, the water level is perfect. Oil level is fine.

Any ideas?

Check the floorboard at the bottom of the steering
It's possible the lower steering column boot came dislodged and you're hearing the turbo

Thanks for the tip - I checked but the boot is intact and fully located. Also, I think the turbo will make a higher pitched noise

No, it's pretty much a whoosh sound from there

Feedback: The rear (short) boost tubing coupler was perished and torn.
