I spent a few hours researching and reading forum posts, pieces seemed to make sense, but I wanted to get your take on my situation.
I'm well aware of all the 2004 XC 90 T6 tranny issues, and started experiencing failure at 120k that seemed to "self heal".. then came back with vengeance at 140k. Went through a dealer and Volvo NA to seek assistance, they said no and stuck me with a $100 service fee. Talked to my volvo specialist who said other than total replacement, they don't seem many options. Called a Transmission shop who said they are very familiar with the problem and fix one a month.. so I bit the bullet and spent $3k. That was 9 weeks ago.
First Fix: After the rebuild, car would "rev up" after a stop then violently drop into gear, sometimes chirping the tires. This is intermittent. Locked into "limp home mode" after a few hundred miles. This resets after a restart and sometimes service lights stay on, sometimes they go off. Took it back.
Second Fix: They replaced the torque converter. They drove it around, didn't get any failures. I drove it off the lot and it lurched like it used to. Then at 75mph on car just shut down. Managed to pull it over.. threw 6 codes, some tranny, some engine. not sure what caused what. reset and the first code to come back was "Gear 3 Incorrect Gear Ratio" took it back.
Third Fix: they said "I wasn't crazy" and that they did find a defective 3rd gear band. Replaced it and should be all set. 100 miles in and I've already gone into "limp home mode" and lurched at half the stop signs. Now, I also have a puddle of tranny fluid under my car every time I park it. Also shut down at a stop sign yesterday.
I saw a MAF code, so I cleaned my MAF, lurching seems a "little" better but definitely still present. Going back to the shop today to take them for a ride so they can feel my pain. Cleared the codes last night and after 20 miles I have a converter lock up failure code (P0740), no engine codes.
After the last fix, I also noticed that the car sounded louder, and that if I had any windows cracked, heat rushes out of the footwell vents at full blast. Window up and it stops.
I read a lot of good info about how some shops fill the tranny through a bolt and not the dipstick.. anything else I can be asking here? I'm just so fed up. Thankfully the shop guarantees their work for 24k miles.. and I think I'm close to asking for a refund.. but then what!? I feel some of this may and may not be related to the transmission shop's work.. but I don't know enough to argue that point. Thank you in advance for your advice.
