I don't see how you could do this in situ...there isn't enough room there to get a puller in...perhaps it could be done, but it's tight. Getting the alternator out isn't hard, just have an extra o-ring for the PS pressure line, you'll have to disconnect it to get the PS pump out of the way.
While you've got it off, I would have the alternator rebuilt - brushes, rectifier, etc. to save you the future trouble.
Bet the guys who can do that can press your new pulley on as well...they've surely done quite a few...I would be curious on how you make out pulling the old one off and pressing the new one on. I see that you can get just the pulley from FCP Groton...good to know in case the XC's pulley starts to go...
