Here goes my experience...
First of all, hi to everyone! Being a long time lurker, I felt the necessity to share my experience while downloading VOLVO software into my XC70 2006....
My DICE is a chinese knockoff and it is fully compatible with the genuine VOLVO software application (VIDA). BTW, the only way you will be able to download software into your VOLVO is by buying a genuine subscription from volvotechinfo.com , unfortunately; there is no way around this. the process is very straight forward and it works. The recommended path is to buy the TOTAL upgrade CAN which includes the latest fixes (already mentionned before on this post). Also if you car already has the latest software ex. TMC upgrade... it will let you know and you can claim a refund which I found fair
I got to update mi DIM, my ECM my AUM my BCM my DEM and my PDM. Tried to upgrade my TCM but my software was already up to date. That is when I found out the TOTAL CAN upgrade that I believe, it includes all the updates for all the modules and is the most cost effective option.
Make sure you plug in a battery charger to keep your charge stable while downloading the software.
The latest VIDA version is 2014AU3.
I used my MAC and installed VMware and windows ultimate 64 bit 7 as a virtual machine. DO NOT RUN ANY WIN UPDATES as the frameworks ver. needs to be kept as it came from the VIDA disk. Just use this virtual machine for your VIDA application and it'll run with no issues.
For my regular diagnosis, I use another virtual machine with my 2013 VIDA version (the one that came with my DICE knockoff).
If you have any questions, let me know.
M.
