Default Need To Play MP3 But Love The OEM System

I am finding it very hard to replace the OEM (HU-803) sound system with my spare nice MP3 capable car system. I love the Volvo's design. Can someone please tell me about the Car MP3 FM Car Transmitter.

    1. Would it work with a 2001 XC70?

    2. If yes, going through an FM station, would it affect the quality of the sound? I am very particular about audio quality since I listen to instrumentations very closely.

    3. What make would you recommend?

    4. On eBay, I found a handfull and many of them are from Honkong and China. Any issue from these locations?

    Thanks

An FM transmitter is a ****ty solution.

Buy one of the integrated systems that allow you to play MP3s through the OEM head unit. I use GROM Audio's:

    http://gromaudio.com/store/index.html

Some others on the forum use USA Spec with an iPod.

    http://usaspec.com/product.php?Produ...eShowProduct=1

    There's also iMIV:

They provide different levels of integration depending on what you want to interface with.

    I called the manufactures.
GROM: $138, with software, I ‘may’ be able to see the track name on the screen.
USA-SPEC: $129, Ipod only. I don’t own an ipod, just ‘regular’ MP3 players and USB flash drives
IMIV: $140, Also, no track display of track playing.

The tempting one is the GROM since I “may” be able to see the tracks with a software. The gentleman I spoke to was not certain since some users were not able to see the Now-Playing track.

Anyone ever used the one from eBay (attached image)? Wonder how come the prices of both varies greatly. Something’s not right!

If I have the choice, I would like to be able to see the name of the track playing. Sure appreciate all your input here.
    Thanks.

I use the USA Spec and have enjoyed it thus far. Easy install and easy to use.

USA Spec does allow you to connect a non-iPod mp3 player headphone out through the auxiliary input. Then of course you have to use the display and controls on the mp3 player, and that's not what you want. Works fine for me though. I Velcro the player next to the receiver. I've had it for about 4 years. If I were doing it again today though I'd be looking for a solution with bluetooth connectivity for a smart phone and play my music through it.

For seeing the track name I think there is a beta version of the GROM device firmware that has it act like a MD player instead of a CD changer or something like that...

There's some talk about it here:

I don't personally own an iPhone. I need to use a MP3 player I can leave in the car.

I specifically asked the guy at USA-SPEC about MP3 player, and he said I can ONLY use an iPod. Same comment with the IMIV guy. Only the GROM guy said I may see the playing track name with the software (firmware).
Now, I am confused of why he said so.

Yes, I would not mind the MP3 display as long as I can tell which track is playing - that's my goal.
You users have convinced me more than the equipment dealers and I appreciate that.

Just curious, how come no one commented on my earlier post (and attachement):
" Anyone ever used the one from eBay (attached image)? Wonder how come the prices of both varies greatly. Something’s not right! "

    Thanks!
