Default Why replace resistor and blower together?

My 2000 xc70 blower has been blowing at variable speeds and now it does not blow at all. Most posts suggest replacing both resistor and blower together.

Why replace both of them. Does a bad relay damage a blower?

    Thanks

Well the biggest reason is single labor charge or if you're doing it, a one time deal.
They sit next to each other

A bad power stage will not damage a blower.
Bad motors take out power stages.

If you do your own work, a new blower motor
should be all you need to replace.
