    Default Ignition coil symptoms?

What are the most common symptoms if an ignition coil is going bad?

For me, the vehicle drove as normal until I needed a good amount of power. Then it would buck and cause severe power loss momentarily. This progressed to the point being unable to keep up with traffic on hills. My XC never did show any codes, but I replaced all the coils and it's been perfect since.

This sound a bit like what I experienced today ...

My first thought was transmission (yes, I have the 2002 transmission that I have nursed and it has been perfect up to now) but it doesn't seem to be transmission as it behaves quite the way it always does - hence my suspicion that it may be the ignition coils.

I wasted a lot of $$ on transmission "fixes" for mine too. It would stutter, or buck, but mostly only at highway speeds and was more prominent after a coast when you then hit the gas. Not sure what ultimately led me to the ignition coils, but once I replaced them, the problem never came back. BTW, I did all 5 at once. It seemed simpler than trying to figure out which one was bad, and if one was bad, were the others far behind? I also never had a code thrown.

Dealer diagnosed problem as Boost Pressure Sensor, not ignition coils. Being replaced tomorrow - let's see if it fixes the problem. PS There is evidence on a couple of other Volvo sites that it could be the Boost Pressure Sensor, with exactly the same symptoms.
