Yikes!... I didn't know what its called, even within the forum its referred to as a scuff plate and a scuff rail. What's gonna scuff it, ... what's rocking ;D? Hey I'm a film editor and don't know that much about car nomenclature. Show me the stool in the corner and I'll go sit there.

Scuff plate is fine, (makes sense).
Lower door trim is not (hint: It's not attached to the door)!

HELP! After getting the side scuff pieces and showing the service advisor that the XC needs to go in the back, they still freakin installed them wrong! To get this corrected am I going to have a bunch of empty holes that will cause problems in the future? Will they need to get new rivets? You can see that the plates don't lie flush against the car because of this. I would have done it myself if I had the time and a rivet gun. I'm sooooo angry.

Wow! You trust these people to work on your car? Is the a dealer? Wow!!
Retarded monkeys could've followed the picture directions that came with mine. It's really hard for me to picture what they did. Mine are in so tight, I can't imagine not doing some sort of damage in pulling them off. But if you do manage, hopefully you'll be lucky enough to just be able to simply swap them around the right way. Hard to say without seeing what they did firsthand. The tricky thing, if you do have to reposition the hanger brackets, will be to get them in perfect register, as the jigs will be snapped off. You're going to want to get new brackets- not sure how, might be a dealer part or special order. Just fill the holes with epoxy or bondo. You could even try abs welding if you want to be a perfectionist, but these holes should be covered up when your done- unless they screwed up beyond what I can even imagine! They really need to make this right for you! Gah!

Yeah, my days with this Volvo dealer are coming to an end.

Just wondering out loud here. There IS very little difference in the shape of the plate from one end to the other. The "XC" side does have a little more rake to its ending. AND from what I've read on another thread the plate doesn't fit any more flush against the cladding even when installed properly. SO, now that I've lost confidence in the dealer's crew would it make that much difference to leave it with the XC in front and avoid having to fill holes and risk new mistakes. Is there anything else I'm missing in the difference of installation placements?

Pictures are worth gazillions of words. Just went out with my phone and snapped these. There seems to be about 1/8 inch tolerance variable across the plate. at no point is it actually touching the cladding, but it comes darned close. Some spots, the plate stands away from the cladding about 1/8 inch. So take a look at these, and you tell me.

Thanks for the quick reply and photos. Mine is similar, the gap may be slightly larger.
