    Default Change ... or not?

My wagon will be 11 years old on 31/01/2013 and I have been looking at replacing it for a while.

Even though I (try to) keep the car in pristine maintenance condition, the reason for my search is the reality that my holiday cottage on the coast is 750 miles away from my normal residence, and with towns spaced between 100 and 150 miles apart [offering NO Volvo assistance anyway] I do not want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere.

So I settled for a MY2010 (late 2009 registration) XC60 3.0T with just over 41.000 miles - in exceptionally clean condition.

And then the time came to decide whether the XC70 or the S60 will have to go ... and the S60 lost! So while I will join the XC60 forum as an active member, I am not deserting this forum yet!

I couldn't believe it! It has never happened to me before! I actually grew attached to my XC70 ...

All that needs to happen now (and I begin to see it happening, based on the ongoing enthusiasm shown by owners on this and other forums) is that "our" wagon is set to become one of the real Volvo classics - maybe not in the mold of the legendary P1800, but certainly in its own domain!

I can understand your attachment, my daughter just bought a V70XC 02 just like yours, 91K miles, and we absolutely love it, she hopes to keep it forever, she does drive 100 miles a day so the miles add up, but we have a superb independent mechanic actually cared for the car before we got it. The fact is that it is just a beautiful looking car, and of course the ride is great, I have an S60 and it is comfortable too but the feel of the XC is just different, it's so solid a ride. I can understand, given the distance to the coast and the lack of possibly needed assistance , that you would want a newer vehicle. I know nothing about cars ( old lady of 85) but I read the forum with great interest and I have a sense now of how complicated car technology is, so I am not going to be surprised at any repair that will be needed in the future. I wonder how many miles you have on your XC? Good luck with your new vehicle, I wish you many trouble free miles with it, that's a long way to a vacation cottage, I find myself thinking!

I know what you mean about wanting to hang on to it. I have had mine coming up to 5 years but I really have no desire to change it. It's a good family hauler without driving like a boat. I really liked the look of the previous gen S60. With the 2.5T and smaller, lighter than the XC it must have been a nice car to drive.
